Wheelchair Access and Low Mobility
Access to all areas of the Theatre is made far easier with many new facilities for customers. There is a lift to all floors, including the Theatre Bar, Café Torch and the Joanna Field Gallery. There are wheelchair accessible toilets on each floor. Wheelchair spaces are available in both performance spaces. We can store wheelchairs and also have one available for loan (courtesy of PIPPA) for patrons transferring to seats. If you have low mobility, we suggest you book for rows P, L, M and N (auditorium left) for easier access to the Main House and lift, and rows C, D and E (auditorium left) in the Studio. Please inform the Box Office of your requirements when booking your tickets.
Deaf and Hard of Hearing
The Box Office is fitted with a DDA compliant portable induction loop system. Dolby Screen Talk is now available at selected screenings of most popular films. Both theatre spaces are equipped with an infra red hearing system to be used with headsets, available from the Box Office.
Subtitled Screenings
Until recently, hearing impaired and profoundly deaf people have been unable to enjoy a cinema experience and the opportunity to share that experience with friends and family. The good news is that over a quarter of UK cinemas have now been equipped with new digital equipment which changes all that - and the Torch is one of them! The provision of specially programmed subtitled screenings at the Torch represents a significant step forward in the service to our patrons. All members of the audience will be able to see the subtitles at these special screenings.
Most popular cinema releases are now available with subtitles and the number of films is increasing. Not all accessible screenings may be available in time to be announced in our film brochure, but they will be listed on our website immediately they do become available. All subscribers to our Film Mailing List, which you can join through our website, will automatically be kept informed. Occasionally films, such as foreign language films, are released with subtitles anyway. In this case, you will see subtitles as normal, but not descriptive text on the action/noises etc.
www.yourlocalcinema.com is the main website for accessing information on accessible screenings at venues across the UK, including the Torch, and offers a weekly newsletter to subscribers informing them of what’s on. There is also a bulletin on audio described cinema which is designed to assist blind and visually impaired customers: 'talking website' and 'web over phone':

Audio Description - for Visually Impaired People
Audio described screenings of films enable those with sight impairments to enjoy the experience of Cinema through a unique narrated soundtrack which not only gives the narrative, but a visual description of the film as well. Audio Described films will be annotated on our website against the main film entry. Please ask our Box Office for a headset upon arrival. For more information on this service and how you can find out easily about screenings go to www.yourlocalcinema.com.
