Donations & Sponsorship by Individuals
YOUR DONATIONS AND HOW THEY HELP THE TORCH
The generosity of our supporters and local businesses recently raised a whopping £30,000 towards the re-development of the Torch through our Sponsor a Seat Scheme, but all your donations, however small, are hugely important to us.
When the Torch re-opened in March 2008 after it's £5.5 million refurbishment, we were proud to boast state of the art equipment. However, we must not become complacent. Continual and rapid advances in technology mean that we have to keep our eye on the ball and respond to both changes in the market and how that affects consumer demand. Digital cinema would be a fine example - and now independent cinemas such as ourselves are having to look at how we can afford to replace the current system of huge reels of 35mm film with a special digital projector and a system which enables us to simply download the film! Another growing trend is 3D Cinema - but we need more than a special pair of glasses to show a film in 3D - and will the film makers find it lucrative enough to continue to make films in 3D ... will audience demand subside? These are all things we have to keep abreast of and consider.
Our current project however is to complete something which was part of our original refurbishment plan and that is to make our building not only more beautiful, but a beacon, an icon for the town of Milford Haven.

What you see on the left hand side of the photograph above is our 'fly tower'. This 'tower' is immediately above the main stage area and enables us to 'fly in' scene and lighting changes on an enormous scale - even the cast can be flown in if the show calls for it! A 'fly tower' makes a massive contribution to what makes theatre magical. However its magic is heavily disguised on the outside. If you study the photo more carefully you will see a number of rectangular fixings. These are temporary 'covers' which are protecting the fixings for a state of the art lighting design. With your help, we would like to complete the job and give the town something beautiful and something which symbolises the magic within! Below is a computer generated photograph of what you could be seeing from Milford Haven's marina.
How to Make a Donation
If you purchase tickets online, you will automatically be given the option to make a donation. If you would like to make a donation by cash or cheque however, please send to the Torch addressed to Peter Doran, Artistic Directior.
GIFT AID - How It Works
If you pay UK Tax, then the Gift Aid Scheme makes your gifts of money go further! Gift Aid donations are regarded as having basic rate tax deducted by the donor. Charities such as ourselves take your donation, which is money you've already paid tax on, and reclaim the basic rate tax on its 'gross' equivalent - the amount before basic rate tax was deducted. Basic rate tax is 20 per cent, so this means that if you give £10 using Gift Aid, it’s worth £12.50 to us! For donations between 6 April 2008 and 5 April 2011 the charity or CASC will also get a separate government supplement of three pence on every pound you give. Find out more on Gift Aid basics here.
DON'T TAKE A BACK SEAT... SPONSOR A SEAT | NODDWCH SEDD!
Sponsor A Seat gets the name of your choice onto a seat in the Main House, and costs just £200. If you add Gift Aid we can claim another £56 from the taxman too!
