Torch Volunteers
If you are interested in the Theatre and would like to get more involved, you may like to join our Front of House or Marketing teams as a Volunteer.
Torch Volunteers are local people with a love of theatre who give freely of their time to contribute in many ways to the successful running of the Torch Theatre. They are vital members of the Torch Team and the time and commitment that they continually give to the Theatre is much appreciated.
Some sixty volunteers currently work with our Front of House Team. Duties include ushering for live shows and films, selling programmes and merchandise, distributing leaflets, helping customers and most importantly providing a warm welcome to all our audiences and visitors to ensure their visit is a memorable one.
Some of our volunteers have worked previously at the Torch but many are newcomers to theatre work and after a short training course and shadowing experienced staff, newcomers soon settle into their new roles. The training course includes fire safety, customer service, theatre policy and health and safety. We hold 3 - 4 training sessions per year to enhance skills and most importantly to socialise. The current team are aged between 16 and 70 years plus and include students, local people, professionals and retired people so you are bound to make new friends and meet some really interesting people.
The Marketing Department also have a team of Volunteers who assist in the regular distribution of posters, flyers and season brochures around the County and are an important point of contact in some of our more rural villages. From village Post Offices and corner shops to town amenities, cafés, restaurants and local clubs – these Volunteers assist us in extending our publicity throughout the County, helping to spread the word, and to encourage others to enjoy the work of one of Wales’ most respected theatres. However, not everyone wants to be out and about - so we have our merry band of 'Stuffing Vollies' as well who come in every couple of weeks to help us put together the latest mailing, have a cuppa and put the world to rights all at the same time!
We are currently seeking Volunteer Ambassadors with a couple hours to spare every three to four weeks, to look after our poster outlets in Pembroke Dock, Tenby, St. Davids and Fishguard. Many of our smaller coastal towns and villages need looking after too, so do get in touch if you think you can help. It's a great way to keep fit! Please contact Karen or Lesley.
For more information on becoming either a Front of House Volunteer or a Marketing Volunteer, please contact us stating your preference.
