Personal and Playful Response to the Seminal Film Billy Elliot
Inspired by the iconic film Billy Elliot, Billy: Twirling Through Time is a joyful performance of pirouettes, spins, and lip-syncs through a nostalgic journey of dance, friendship, and identity. Tom Marshman and Ryan O’ Shea bring humour and heart to the Torch Theatre this June as they reimagine scenes from the film, reflecting on ageing in dance.
Expect cheap wigs, cheaper costumes, and a rich tapestry of queer life, presented by Beacons, Icons and Dykons.
“It’s all performed In the spirit of gentle and loving parody, and laced with winning, tongue-in-cheek humour,” commented Bristol 24/7 with Audience Feedback stating: “I don’t smile very often, people say I’ve got a bitch face, but I smiled through the whole hour .”
Devised and performed by both Tom and Ryan, and produced by Sarah Warden, the hour long performance is a personal and playful response to the seminal film Billy Elliot. Billy: Twirling Through Time addresses their inter-generational queer friendship and as well as other themes of the aging body in dance and family relationships.
Billy: Twirling Through Time can be seen on the Torch Theatre stage on Wednesday 17 June 7.30pm. Price: £15. Book tickets via the website torchtheatre.co.uk / Box Office: 01646 695267 or click here.
