If you visit the Torch Café, you’ve probably come across Alicia Todaro – one of the friendly faces taking your orders and preparing your food. The Torch Theatre marketing team caught up with Alicia to hear all about her time at the Torch.

I’ve been working in the food industry since I was around 14 years old and have a true passion for food. Coming from an Italian family, food has always been an important part of my childhood. Being rich in family traditions has taught me and my children from my dad and grandparents, bringing us together as a family. Over the years I’ve had the privilege of working in many wonderful local cafes and restaurants, so some of you may recognize me.

My greatest joy has always been making cakes and desserts.

For four years, I was self-employed, creating custom celebration cakes, brownie boxes, shortbread mince pies and cupcakes from home. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It allowed me to do something I absolutely love whilst also spending time with my two young children.

I joined the Torch in October 2022. My role is to support the Catering Manager to manage our café, kiosk and bar area. From day one, everyone has been incredibly welcoming, especially Lisa, who has been amazing in supporting and teaching me new techniques in the cooking of and presenting food. I have quickly been made to feel an important and valued member of the Torch team. I feel very fortunate to continue doing the things I’m passionate about whilst working alongside such a fantastic group of people in a supportive and nurturing environment.

I’m truly grateful to be working in such a wonderful and inclusive community space with an ever changing exciting programme of events - where no two days are ever the same.
