Blog No. 36 - Seren Vickers
Seren Vickers is heading back to the Torch – 10 Years Later. This October, Seren will play the ‘Woman’ (school governess) in The Turn of The Screw. Read all about her time at the Torch and her hopes for this heart-pounding, edge of your seat production.
I am delighted to be back at The Torch.
I first performed at the Torch Theatre in 2015 with Dark Vanilla Jungle — a one-woman show and my first professional acting role. It was intense, demanding, and completely exhilarating. I still remember how welcoming the team at the Torch were, and how warm the audience. I knew then that I wanted to work at The Torch again in the future.
Now, almost ten years later, I’m back — this time in The Turn of the Screw.
I am drawn to stories that leave space for imagination and interrogation. The Turn of the Screw does exactly that. It is a wonderfully unsettling ghost story, but it’s also a tale about innocence, desire, fear, secrets and loneliness. Despite sounding dark and serious, there is humour throughout - I promise! You can’t have darkness without light, after all.
Since that first visit to the Torch, I’ve worked on a wide range of productions — from Shakespeare to new writing, physical theatre to immersive theatre. Each project has challenged me in a different way, but coming back the The Torch feels special.
The best kind of Theatre for me, are the stories that linger. I hope The Turn of the Screw does that for audiences.
I look forward to welcoming audiences to Bly Manor.
