Holly Mayhew loves rugby, but the former Haverfordwest RFC and Scarlets prop has hung up her boots for the stage, as she appears in this year’s festive twisty tangled pantomime, Rapunzel at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven. From the cold, muddy rugby pitches to the warmth and comfort of the theatre, Holly plays the main character with luscious locks and can’t wait to get into the festive spirit.

Having recently graduated from Drama Studio London’s BA professional acting course, Holly started her journey at the Torch Youth Theatre before training with Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama’s ‘Young Actors Studio. But this role at the Torch Theatre will be her first professional pantomime role.

“I’m quite similar to Rapunzel in the pantomime and I fit the role very well,” chuckled Holly who was ecstatic to receive an e-mail stating she’d been given the leading role. “Rapunzel’s not your usual princess, she has a mind of her own, she’s bouncy and bubbly and is definitely not the traditional princess that we are familiar with. Chesley Gillard, the Artistic Director has done a great job and the audience will fall in love with Rapunzel.”

The pantomime, all about the girl with the magical hair, locked away in a Pembrokeshire lighthouse waiting to be rescued, is a Christmas must.

“Rapunzel will include a lot of fun songs, lots of falling over and slips, silliness and of course audience participation. We want audience members to be as loud as possible when we ask them to boo and hiss!,” added Holly who hopes that the pantomime will bring a lot of Christmas joy. “I can’t wait to see the little faces in the audience light up with delight.”
