A Showcase of Life Drawings and Oil Paintings at the Torch
Seven Pembrokeshire based artists are preparing their drawings and paintings for the July Exhibition at the Torch Theatre. Following last year’s successful exhibition at the Theatre, the artists, all students with Learning Pembrokeshire who are progressing in their work, are looking forward to seeing their art displayed at the Joanna Field Gallery.
Artists Jess Cook, Paul King, Jamie Miall, Terry Smith, Richard Thomas, John Walters and Aline Whitaker, all members of the Pembrokeshire Community Art Group, will see their drawings and paintings exhibited as part of the ‘Punctum 2’ exhibition.
“We all enjoyed the first exhibition at the Torch, and on another recent visit to the Torch, it’s Artistic Director, Chesley Gillard, approached me and said what a terrific exhibition it had been, the feedback had been really good and would we like to return and host another exhibition this year. Of course, we jumped at the chance,” said Paul King, one of the artists.
People visiting the Gallery during Box Office opening hours will see over 40 paintings and oils – some abstract, landscape, portraits and figurative.
“Painting is very much solitary work and it’s a way of communicating something although I’m not too sure what and with whom. Most of us aren’t exhibiting with the aim of selling any of our works, we just really enjoy doing it and working and meeting up as a group and we are very much looking forward to seeing the exhibition opening its doors,” added Paul.
Laura Phillips, Life Long Learning Co-ordinator with Learning Pembrokeshire is delighted that the students have been invited back to the Torch for yet another year to showcase their work. She said:
“Having the opportunity to showcase the artwork of our learners in such a well-respected exhibition space will hopefully inspire more local people to explore their creativity through art.
“Our tutor, Mark Deane’s commitment to his students’ journey this year has been extraordinary. You can see in the art on show what talents we are capable of exploring with the right support and guidance. Everyone should feel truly proud of their achievements. Each week I catch a glimpse of the work they are producing and I leave feeling inspired by the power of learning.”
The ‘Punctum 2’ exhibition of Life Drawings and Oil Paintings can be viewed at the Joanna Field Gallery, at the Torch Theatre throughout July during Box Office opening hours. Further details can be found by visiting torchtheatre.co.uk or by contacting the Box Office on 01646 695267.
