Set in the Swiss Alps with the themes of love, loss, and reconciliation at its core, opera fans are in for a treat

The Metropolitan Opera's 19th Live Cinema Season, kicks off with La Sonnambula, a recorded broadcast which appears on the cinema screen at the Torch Theatre mid October. Set in the Swiss Alps with the themes of love, loss, and reconciliation at its core, opera fans are in for a treat.

Following triumphant Live in HD performances in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, Verdi’s La Traviata, and Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, Nadine Sierra summits another peak of the soprano repertoire as Amina, who sleepwalks her way into audiences’ hearts in Bellini’s poignant tale of love lost and found.

Appearing on the Torch Theatre screen on Sunday 19 October, La Sonnambula, sees Rolando Villazón in his new production as the tenor who has embarked on a brilliant second career as a director. He retains the opera’s original setting in the Swiss Alps but uses its somnambulant plot to explore the emotional and psychological valleys of the mind.

Tenor Xabier Anduaga co-stars as Amina’s fiancé, Elvino, alongside soprano Sydney Mancasola as her rival, Lisa, and bass Alexander Vinogradov as Count Rodolfo. Riccardo Frizza takes the podium for one of opera’s most ravishing works.

This a recorded broadcast and can be seen on the Torch Theatre screen on Sunday 19 October at 6pm. Tickets: £20.00 | £18.00 Cons | £9.00 Under 26. Book tickets via the website torchtheatre.co.uk / Box Office: 01646 695267 or click here
