Surreal, episodic show about mental health, identity and recovery

Period Drama by Olga Kaleta (with integrated BSL by Sherrie Eugene Hart) is a surreal, episodic show about mental health, identity and recovery. It mixes autobiographical storytelling with circus and bold physicality and can be seen here on the Torch Theatre stage on Saturday 2 August.

A deep dive into the question of wellness through a feminist lens, via slasher flicks, bloody knickers and existential dilemmas of insects, the drama is a frank discussion of sexuality and mental health using strong language. Co-Directed by Laura Murphy and Nicole A’Court-Stuart, it combines dark humour and physical comedy. The performance is poignant, beautiful and laugh-out-loud challenging ideas of who we are and what we are meant to become.

Suitable for those 16 +, the main music theme is composed by Ashley John Long, produced by Nicole A‘Court-Stuart and Thea Woodrow and the set design by Lauren Dix. It’s a Handstand Arts commission for Circus City’s Respond Programme and has been created with support from Arts Council England and those who play the National Lottery, following the initial R&D funded by Arts Council Wales.

Period Drama can be seen at the Torch Theatre on Saturday 2 August at 7.30pm. Tickets £16 full / £14 for U24. To book tickets visit the website torchtheatre.co.uk / call the Box Office on 01646 695267 or click here.
