Our Youngest Reviewer, Freya, Shares Her Thoughts on The Turn of The Screw

Her first movements were like a dolls. Like a machine. Programmed. It was eerie. She moved down the stairs as a man sat in a chair. When her mechanic-like trance finally subsided, it was like we were transported into an office. A man spoke to her about a job. His niece and nephew, whom he had never met, needed a proper caregiver. The woman agreed. The next day she had arrived and immediately befriended Flora, the youngest child of the two. Though, shortly after, her happiness was soon to be shaken when ten year old Miles has been expelled from his school for strange behaviour. Behaviour he refuses to mention. The next day, Miles returns home and from then, everything seems to go downhill. In the end, it bears the question, was it all real? Or was it all in her head?

An amazing and absolutely fabulous show. I was firstly surprised by the fact that there were only two people. Two people who portrayed their parts and characters wonderfully and kept the eerie vibes alive. I am amazed at what the actors could do, even when portraying two children, a maid, the master and the woman. I was mesmerized that the second actor was able to portray three different characters throughout the show and I found it particularly spooky how when he wasn't in the scene, he would just hide under the second floor of the set and turn away from the audience.

I should also mention that I was immediately captivated by the set design. Walking in I was shocked to find how well they did the set. It amazed me that they had their own “lake” on set. The staircase added to the creepy setting, and the broken banisters made everything better. The amount of imagination used was wonderful and to my surprise, most of the sounds and effects were made by the actors. It's safe to say that the entire show was spooky and creepy and kept me guessing the entire time throughout the show!

I would definitely, positively, 100% watch this 1000 times again. An absolutely extraordinary and breathtaking show. An amazing job well done!
