Blog No. 29 - Angharad Tudor
Our Agent for Change, Angharad Tudor-Price tells us all about her role at the Torch and Craidd, a collaboration between five Welsh organisations.
Hello, my name is Angharad. I'm a Pembrokeshire raised freelance multidisciplinary artist (comedian, poet, clown, events and festival organiser and community artist). I am also an Agent for Change at the Torch Theatre as part of the Craidd innovative. I'm here to tell you a little about Craidd and what I do as an Agent for Change.
What is Craidd?
Craidd is a collaboration between five Welsh organisations; the Torch Theatre, Theatr Clwyd, Sherman Theatre, Pontio Arts, and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. Craidd’s mission is to improve mainstream representation, for and with deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people across Wales. This means that every Craidd production will include deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent artists both on stage and behind the scenes as well as in the creative teams. It will lead to substantial changes in theatres by removing the barriers faced by disabled artists and audiences. . It also aims to drive positive change in the partner organisations involved as well as within the wider theatre sector, to ensure that this inclusivity is something we all do.
What does Craidd mean?
Craidd is a Welsh word which means ‘Core’ reflecting the ambition of the work from the partnership to be at the heart of all theatre making across Wales.
What does an Agent do?
As an Agent for Change my job is to support the Torch Theatre to create sustainable changes that foster inclusivity in every department in the theatre for deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people. Over the past seven months, I met with various departments at the Torch to identify ways to enhance accessibility and to create a roadmap for the next five years.
Recently members of the Front of House and creative teams have just completed a 10- week introduction to BSL (British Sign Language) with the amazing Adam from Pembrokeshire Sign and Share. As well as this there have been deliveries of staff training focused on disability awareness and neurodiversity.
Alongside this ambitious programme of change, Craidd will create a mainstage touring production featuring deaf, disabled, and/or neurodivergent talent in Wales. Theatr Clwyd will produce the first show in 2026 and tour to the Sherman Theatre, Pontio Arts, and the Torch Theatre. We cannot wait to have this production on tour, as well as to create our own right here at the Torch in a few years' time.
What do you like about the Job?
I really love being part of the Torch Team! Everyone has been super welcoming and eager to create positive change, and there's a strong sense of accountability in supporting access.
I’ve had a strong connection with the Torch from a young age, starting from performing in the youth summer school when I was a teenager. I’ve then worked in various front of house roles as well as working as an artist and taking my son regularly to live shows. As a freelance neurodiverse artist in Pembrokeshire, I can couple my lived experience with my passion for the Torch and everything it does.
As part of the role, I also enjoy connecting with artists and production companies in Wales that explore new ways to embed access in their productions. Our learning grows as we foster connections!
So, it’s a privilege to support the Torch in becoming a beacon of accessibility.
How can we connect with you?
If you would like to connect in person then please do join us on Wednesday 12 February, for a coffee and a friendly chat during our community consultation. This is a great opportunity for you to share your thoughts on the Torch and suggest ways we can improve access in areas such as facilities, programming and community engagement.
It's important for us to engage with our community of patrons, artists, and those who might not yet be familiar with the Torch Theatre. If it is not possible to join us that day, you can contact me via my email: angharad.tudor@craidd.cymru or call the staff at the Box Office on 01646 695267, and they’ll be happy to help you.
