5 Minutes with Sherlock and Watson

Described as ‘Splastick at its Best’ by Finn Studios, the new comedy of Sherlock and Watson by Calf 2 Cow will be performing on the Torch Theatre stage this June. Anwen went to along to find more about the production and whodunit!

We are very excited to welcome you here to the Torch Theatre. Tell us a bit about Sherlock and Watson – A Murder in the Garden.
The dynamic detective duo that you know, and love will be solving a brand-new case, right here in Milford Haven! Along the way, they will meet all the cooky and crazy characters of London Town. This hilarious and exciting show is brought to life in Calf 2 Cow's unique style of slapstick comedy, accompanied by toe-tapping knee-slapping folk-rock, performed live by our cohort of talented actor-musicians.

Who will the production appeal to?
Our show is vibrant, fun, daring and cheeky. To be enjoyed by young and old adults. Suitable for 12 plus... this is a murder case after all!

What will Sherlock Holme fans think?
We can promise you will not have seen Doyle's deer-stalker super sleuth quite like this. Our work is always made with love for the original text, and we hope that the mega-fans out there will notice all our subtle...clues

‘There will be blood’ – tell us more.
Now that would be telling...come and solve the mystery.

Will there be audience participation?
Calf 2 Cow thrives on live performance, and that daring thrill comes from the audience. We love to hear you whoop and cheer and join in. This night is for you, and we are going to need your help to solve the case.

Where did the idea come from?
We have lots of great chats in the van whilst on tour, and shows come to life as we get excited planning them. We have always been obsessed with strong characters, and following our bonkers imagining of Kenneth Grahame's Toad of Toad Hall and The Jabberwock by Lewis Carroll, we thought it was time to take on our biggest and best adventure yet!

Tell us something fun about the characters.
We have a small but talented cast who need to play a lot of roles...sometimes more than one at a time, and by different actors. We have a lot of boots to fill, and the game is afoot!

What is the fresh take on this well-known tale?

Sherlock will have all the world and the kitchen sink thrown at him in working out this 'whodunit'. The stakes couldn't be higher, and we promise to bring the energy to not only lift, but catapult the story off of the page and into your laps, as we all go on a murder mystery you will never forget.

What other productions are you working on?

Calf 2 Cow has recently finished Bath's premiere Father Christmas experience, and we continue to tour our zany outdoor clown show The Wave across the UK this summer. Our artistic associates Matthew Emeny and Samuel Freeman are currently on the road with Awake My Soul: The Mumford & Sons Story, rocking out in preparation for all the fun we are bringing to the Torch on June 12.

You’ve visited the Torch Theatre before with The Jabberwocky, what do you enjoy about the Torch and Pembrokeshire?
The Torch really is a beacon for theatre, art and community at the land's end of Wales. Our audience there has been so welcoming and up for it, that we cannot wait to be visiting again. The new artistic director Chelsey Gillard is bringing a fresh season of spectacular theatre to Pembrokeshire, and we feel honoured to be a part of that program.
