Torch Youth Theatre Presents: Sycamore Gap

SHOWING FROM Wed 25 Feb - Fri 27 Feb 2026

“I was in the middle of piano. Oaks came in with two police. They took me out, made me go and get you all…”

There’s been a killing. The symbol of a nation. Star of film, TV and music videos is dead. The Sycamore Gap tree has been chopped down. Someone in Eco-club has sawdust on their hands!

The police have arrived to investigate and now Eco-club are in huge trouble. This tree was in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, in Bryan Adam’s music video (Everything I do) I do it for you, and an episode of Vera. It is supposed to be one of the oldest trees in the UK. But now it’s gone. Chopped down in it’s prime, at 125 years old. The authorities are sure that one of them did it.

“While I was up there, I heard voices in the valley… Two people whispering. Two people giggling.”

Things start to unravel quickly as temperatures rise, friendships fray and long held grudges surface. Who will get to the answers first, the police or the Eco-club members?

Torch Youth Theatre present Al Smith’s Sycamore Gap as part of the National Theatre’s NT Connections Program. The play will also be performed by the company at Aberystwyth Arts Centre in May 2026.

Sycamore Gap is sponsored by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
