A Role to Support the Gathering of LGBTQ+ Communities at the Torch Theatre

Queer collective Beacons Icons and Dykons (BID) is looking for a local Project Ambassador for two days work across February 2024. The purpose of this paid freelance role is to support a gathering of LGBTQ+ communities at new event hosted by the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven.

Since September 2023, lead BID artist, Tom Marshman, has been collecting stories across the UK and the project is now beginning its Welsh tour.

BID is exploring the impact of Section 28 legislation introduced by Margaret Thatcher's Conservative government. In partnership with the Torch Theatre, BID is holding a tea party during LGBTQ+ history month (late February). This is a moment to host important conversations for the queer community, making forgotten histories visible, and connecting them to the present moment.

During the tea party there will be short performances connected to the topic of section 28 to provoke conversation, providing starting points for discussion with a cabaret flair. The event is FREE to attend.

BID aim to bring together different generations for this conversation and they are particularly interested in hearing how LGBTQ+ Welsh speakers tested / test the boundaries of the Welsh language to discuss their experience.

They would like to work with a local member of the community in the role or Project Ambassador to connect the project to the local LGBTQ+ community, to be a person on the ground and the local representative of the project.

There is no requirement for the ambassador to have a background in arts or advocacy.

IF you are interested in taking in this paid role please send an expression of interest and your relevant experience (totalling no more than two paragraphs / or three minutes of voice note or video) to Sarah: info@tommarshman.com by January 26.
