Tennessee Williams’ timeless masterpiece ...

Fans of Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller, Edward Albee, Harold Pinter and other classic playwrights whose works explore human emotions and complex relationships will enjoy A Streetcar Named Desire on the Torch Theatre screens this June. From visionary director Benedict Andrews, this acclaimed production was filmed live during a sold-out run at the Young Vic Theatre in 2014.

Gillian Anderson (Sex Education), Vanessa Kirby (The Crown), and Ben Foster (Lone Survivor) lead the cast in Tennessee Williams’ timeless masterpiece, returning to cinemas, that sees Blanche’s fragile world crumbling as she turns to her sister Stella for solace – but her downward spiral brings her face to face with the brutal, unforgiving Stanley Kowalski.

“A Streetcar Named Desire, one of the most critically acclaimed plays of the 20th century, will be released for cinema viewings on Thursday 5 June and the Torch Theatre is delighted to be showing the play the very same night as its international release. It is still rated as one of the most performed plays even though it first opened in Conneticut in the winter of 1947,” explained Anwen Francis from the Torch Theatre’s marketing team.

The fastest-selling production in the Young Vic's history, it has received critical acclaim and 5-star reviews. It is one of NT Live’s most popular titles and has been watched by 1.2 million people worldwide. Described by the Evening Standard as “Gripping. Gillian Anderson is unmissable,” and as a “first –rate performance from Vanessa Kirby as Stella. Gillian Anderson is utterly compelling,” by the Guardian, this is a must see.

NT Live: A Streetcar Named Desire can be seen on the Torch Theatre screen on Thursday 5 June at 7pm.

Ticket prices: £15 / £13 concessions and £8.50 U26. For tickets phone the Box Office on 01646 695267 / visit torchtheatre.co.uk or click here.
