Pembrokeshire Peninsula Provides Endless Inspiration
An exhibition by Welsh amateur artist Emma Bowen, who lives on the St Davids peninsula will open at the Oriel Joanna Field Gallery at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven on Saturday 2 August 2025. The exhibition entitled, Surrounded by Sea is a body of work based on Emma’s local landscape near to St Davids.
Surrounded to the north, west and south by the Celtic Sea, the peninsula provides endless inspiration, with Emma heading to the beach or coast path daily to explore, take photos and make sketches, which she then uses to recreate the views in her paintings. Working mainly in acrylic, but with hints of ink, pastel and collage, Emma evokes the textures of the landscape through the use of mixed media.
Most works feature the contrast between land and sea, with locations including the Blue Lagoon at Aberieddy.
Emma Bowen said: “Within my work I love to experiment with mixed media to create depth and texture. I do paint the same views more than once, but often feel that these paintings are very different and that is what I love most about painting, capturing the essence of a moment in time at that place, that only I will have experienced.”
Surrounded by Sea is exhibiting at the Oriel Joanna Field Gallery at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven from August 2 to August 28 2025 and will be open during Box Office opening hours. Visit the website for further details www.torchtheatre.co.uk / phone the Box Office on (01646) 695267.
