A CHIP-TASTIC TIME AT THE TORCH!
The Torch Youth Theatre production of The Bangers and Chips Explosion went with a sizzle and a pop this week. Fifty local young people took to the stage in what one of our community reviewers described as “a riot of laughter and energy, delivering a brilliantly bonkers performance full of charm, chaos, and chips.”
The rip-roaring comedy adventure, adapted from the outrageously fun book by teacher turned writer, Brough Girling, followed the thrills and spills at St Gertrude’s Primary School. Having received rave reviews over the production’s three night run from the local press and its community and junior reviewers this week sees all the young people having a well earned rest – before Torch Theatre’s amazing summer schools begin.
Tim Howe, Senior Manager Youth &Community at the Torch said that the play showcased what the young people of Pembrokeshire can accomplish. He said:
“The chip-fuelled adventure has been chip-tastic and I’m very proud of everyone who took part – on the stage and behind the scenes. It’s been a huge team effort and a wonderful journey for the young people of Pembrokeshire to get their chops into and to be part of such a great community event here at the Torch Theatre. We’d like to thank everyone who supported the play, including all the young people’s grownups for their unwavering support.”
Alongside the show the Torch Theatre held a Pembrokeshire wide competition asking people to nominate their best dinner lady/supervisor. Nicola Wilson of Goodwick Junior School won the award and was presented with a sausage hamper from Gate 2 Plate near Haverfordwest.
“It’s been a whirlwind journey for everyone involved. We’ve had a lot of laughs and excitement along the way and we can’t wait to do it all again next year. Next year’s show promises just as much adventure, laughs and bucket loads of drama. But we’ll be keeping the title secret just a little bit longer…”said Tim with a grin.
Torch’s youth theatre returns in September for the new academic year, and more information can be found via their website.
The Torch Theatre would like to thank all of its sponsors who supported the show: Moby Dicks Fish and Chip Shop, Gate 2 Plate, Forrest Print, Hangar 5, GD Harries and Pembrokeshire Building & Plumbing Supplies.
