The Torch Theatre welcomes former Ysgol y Preseli pupil, Emily Davis to its stage this March with her one-woman show that hits all the right notes. Blending razor-sharp satire, soaring original songs and a powerhouse performance, Escape the Rat Race! is a musical comedy for anyone who's ever questioned their 9-to-5 - or themselves.

Written and performed by Welsh cabaret artist Emily Davis, and directed by the celebrated Paulus, the Cabaret Geek, this fresh, funny, and ultimately uplifting show follows Blodwen, a bright-eyed woman from west Wales who climbs the corporate ladder in London - only to realise it’s leaning against the wrong wall. A disastrous (or is it life-changing?) sailing trip turns everything upside down.

At a time when so many are questioning the value of endless hustle, Escape the Rat Race! speaks to a growing cultural shift. It’s a love letter to late bloomers, reinvention, and letting go of the ladder - with a glittery wink and a cracking melody.

Audiences and critics have raved with ThreeWeeksEdinburgh describing it as a “Must-see for anyone who's ever worked in an office” with reviewer Julie Kangisser saying that
“Blodwen is the love child of Tom Jones and Victoria Wood.”

With music by Andy Campbell Smith, the show is powered by charm, wit and a big-hearted performance that has left audiences laughing, crying, and booking sailing lessons.

Emily has previously performed at venues including the Wales Millennium Centre, Phoenix Arts Club, and Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club, and has built a loyal following for her original character comedy. An album of songs from the show is in the works and this one woman’s journey from spreadsheets to self-discovery has never sounded so good.
