Blog No. 50 - Sue Lewis
Sue Lewis is a huge supporter of the Torch and recently came to see The Hound of the Baskervilles. Living over an hour away, Sue isn’t local, but finds the journey to Milford Haven well worth it. Read her blog below ...
What a gem the Torch Theatre is! Tucked away in the bottom half of Pembrokeshire it never fails to produce theatrical surprises.
Take the latest production Hound of the Baskervilles. A physically deft comedy that utilised the barest of props to create laugh out loud moments. The Torch is never scared of challenging assumptions – break the third wall? With ease. Character role swapping? No problem. Fast paced comedy? Just watch us.
What I like about the Torch is that the theatre welcomes you as soon as you step inside the front door. Coming into the auditorium creates a genuine frisson that you know you are about to have a good time.
Milford Haven isn’t a place you pass through – especially if you’re travelling from above the Landsker Line – but the Torch makes the journey worthwhile. Parking (unlike many West Wales towns) is straightforward, food offerings plentiful (the café at the Torch is definitely worth a try) and the locals are definitely friendly.
Other memorable shows? One that sticks in my mind is Kill Thy Neighbour – another fast paced play that dealt with the thorny issue of second homes laced with plenty of black humour.
And the pantos? A Christmas treat not to be missed! This year’s Puss in Boots looks set to be as dametastic and hilarious as previous productions.
Book my ticket, I’m heading south!
