Is City Living Really That Great? ... Dragonfly Tells All
Have we become a nation of strangers? Are we lonely? Is social care fit for purpose? Dragonfly (15) sees neglected pensioner Elsie (Brenda Blethyn) finding an unexpected ally in her younger neighbour Colleen (Andrea Riseborough) but can the friendship last? The Torch Theatre, Milford Haven screens this wonderfully acted film this December.
Over time, Yorkshire lass Elsie gains a friend and the troubled Colleen finds a fresh purpose in life as she shops, cleans and cares for her, and as the Radio Times describes – “From this little acorn, an oak tree of friendship grows, as these two lost souls find solace together.” Their friendship brings brighter days for both of them, however, Elsie’s son John (Jason Watkins), resents the way that Colleen has selflessly fulfilled the responsibilities that he has shirked. Simmering tensions bring shocking consequences in a gripping human story straight from the heart of broken Britain.
The 2025 British film drama written and directed by Paul Andrew Williams has been awarded four stars by Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian. He describes it as “haunting, genre-defying drama of lonely city living ... and a stark, fierce, wonderfully acted film – a riveting dual portrait of two gloomy people who really have, in a strange and dysfunctional way, found a new way of interacting.”
Dragonfly can be seen at the Torch Theatre cinema on Tuesday 2 December at 19.45pm, Wednesday 3 December at 14.15pm and Thursday 4 December at 17.5pm. Price: £7.50 | £7.00 Cons. For tickets phone the Box Office on 01646 695267 / visit torchtheatre.co.uk or click here.
