Torch Theatre Summer Schools are Back!
The Torch Theatre’s ever popular summer schools are back this July and August. They are offering two weeks filled with creative fun for young people from age seven years up to 18, and with spaces being strictly limited they want everyone to know what’s happening before they’re all gone!
The Summer Schools are divided into age categories with Heroic Tales for 7 to 11 year olds and Playmakers for 11 to 18 year olds. Over the years, several Torch Youth Theatre members have taken part in the sessions, including Zane who says that they are super.
“It’s a great opportunity for all - includingpeople new to Pembrokeshire or on holiday to attend or to get a taster for Torch Youth Theatre. Young adults get to meet people from all walks of life and discuss topics or ideas they may not have otherwise had the chance to do so,” said Zane who will be taking part in the Torch Youth Theatre’s Summer show – Robin Hood: Legend of the Black Knight this July.
Heroic Tales will have sessions running daily from 10am to 3pm, from Monday 27 to Friday 31 July. The young people will be asked to create and perform their own play based on a story that a library comes ALIVE when the lights go out and the doors are locked. But as less people borrow them, they have to face the horror of the recycling bin! To save their stories the books must look for inspiration on their own pages, and launch a heroic mission before their final chapter is shredded.
For the older young people, their Summer School will concentrate on learning a play in a week! The Torch have selected a contemporary play written for young people, with themes and characters they will recognise in their own lives. Young people will be taken through a professional rehearsal process from first day table read to fina lperformance in just one week! Playmakers runs from 10am to 4pm, Monday 10 to Friday 14 August.
Tim Howe, Senior Manager for Youth and Community at the Torch explains more:
“Torch Theatre summer schools are a real highlight of our year, and we’re very excited about this year’s offerings. Both schools place the development of the young people at their heart, ensuring that they not only have a creative time, but that they develop important social skills, teamwork and self-worth -and the best thing about it is that no previous experience is needed!”
