Three nights of incredible performances, the final night selling every ticket and the Torch Theatre’s community and junior reviewers gave rave reviews for Sycamore Gap as the young people of Pembrokeshire dazzled on stage. And as one show finishes, another is on the cards for members of the Torch Youth Theatre - Robin Hood and the Legend of the Black Knight.
"We are so incredibly proud of our young people and everything they have achieved with this production," said Tim Howe, Director of Sycamore Gap. "While breaking box office records with 96% of tickets sold is an incredible milestone, the greater triumph is seeing these performers gain the essential life skills that will define their future success.
“Sycamore Gap is a demonstration of what we at the Torch believe makes youth theatre great: it is a vital safe space for young people to build friendships, grow in confidence, and discuss the issues that truly matter to them."
Freya, Torch Theatre’s junior reviewer enjoyed the production. She said:
“I was impressed with the singing at the beginning of the show. What a voice! Every actor was able to stand there and say their lines as if it were a normal conversation and I didn’t even hear a single stutter or recognise if anyone made an error. The skill it must take!I’d be shaking in my boots.”
With one final performance of Sycamore Gap to go at Aberystwyth Arts Centre as part of National Theatre Connections tour, the young people of the Torch Youth Theatre are preparing for their next production based on the legendary tale of Robin Hood. Tim explains:
“Following our Aberystwyth Arts Centre performance, we move straight into our spectacular summer production, Robin Hood and the Legend of the Black Knight. Written specifically for our Youth Theatre, it will see over 50 young people take to our main house stage for a brand-new retelling of the classic tale. It’s an incredibly exciting time for our young performers, and we invite everyone to come along and support them."
Ten years ago, Robin Hood fled into the forest. Now, he’s back and looking for adventure. Torch Youth Theatre invites you into the heart of Sherwood Forest. Join Robin Hood, Maid Marian, and a raft of familiar characters as they fight for freedom against the tyranny of Queen Eleanor and the ruthless Sheriff of Nottingham.
With daring escapes, a legendary archery contest, and the presence of the mysterious Black Knight, this is a brand-new retelling of a timeless tale you won't want to miss.
