Two Pembrokeshire artists will sail you away to a much desired place of paradise at the Torch Theatre this July with their exhibition called Convergence – Prints and Paintings based on the county’s coast and beaches. The paintings of artists Anne Kerr and Theresa Pateman can be viewed at the Joanna Field Gallery at the Torch from July 5 to 28 and is an exhibition not be missed.

Anne paints from memory in her studio, thinking of what makes the place unique to paint, and how she can capture the essence of it.

“My response to painting the landscapes has developed over many years since graduating from Derby University in 2001 where I studied Art Therapies. By using different materials intuitively to convey an idea, this involves manipulating and exploring the pictorial space just like the process of exploring the initial landscape,” explained Anne.

Following studying art at Thurrock, and Coventry School of Art and Design, Theresa, who is influenced by frequent visits to the Pembrokeshire Coast, works from a studio in Haverfordwest.

She worked as a freelance illustrator using linocut and monoprint, editioning for artists, and learning about etching techniques. Together with a group of fellow graduates, she was awarded a Prince’s Trust Grant to set up a Silk Screen Workshop and finally established her own etching studios in Kingsgate Workshops, Kilburn.

Theresa currently teaches printmaking at Hampstead School of Art and in her studio. She belongs to Southbank Printmakers artists-run gallery and The Printmakers Council.

Exhibiting throughout the UK including the Royal Academy, Mall Galleries: “Originals” & “Bite” and the Barbican, Theresa’s work features in collections at the V&A, Metropolitan University, Scarborough Art Gallery Archive and worldwide.

Exhibition Convergence: Prints and Paintings by Anne Kerr and Theresa Pateman will feature at the Joanna Field Gallery from July 5 to 28 with a private viewing on Thursday 6 July from 6-8pm.
