Robin Hood: The Legend of the Black Knight Review by Riley
"This classic story adapted by the Torch’s very own Youth Theatre: The story of Robin Hood is one almost every person knows. A righteous thief who steals from the rich and gives to the poor. In this adaptation, the same rule still applies but we get to look deeper into Robin Hood's history and his motivation behind why he does what he does through the influence of a mysterious Black Knight.
"Another wonderfully conducted story by the Torch’s youth Theatre and a heartwarmingly local twist. The Welsh language was integrated throughout with some background sounds being in Welsh and some dialogue being an expression of the language. They also allow almost everyone to have a major role in the story. I loved how the younger cast members were still heavily involved and how enthusiastic they were in every scene they were in. It really added charm and showed the hard work put in by every single person who’s a part of the show. They also use flashbacks often and have younger versions of the main cast show up almost as much as the older versions. I love how they integrate the flashbacks through the show and how they impacted Robin and his crew when they were older. It adds depth and dimensions to the character that I don’t think we would have gotten without the flashbacks. I also think some of the transitions between past and future are perfect and the shared stage time with the older and younger Robin was performed perfectly to show how he has grown. The stage and costumes were also some of the best I’ve seen from the youth theatre. I loved how it looked ripped straight from the Middle Ages and how they somehow got the costumes to match both the past and present scenes. The story was full of compassion and friendship with just enough humour to keep the audience smiling through and enough heartwarming scenes to make it feel grounded.
"Overall a great show to see with the family and I congratulate the Youth Theatre on another amazing performance," Junior Reviewer, Riley.
