BLOG NO. 10 - LISA CANTON

After having my first child, who is now 12 years old, I decided to take a little break from working within school/ nursery settings, where I had trained as a learning support assistant, taking a casual waiting job in a hugely popular Spanish tapas bar in the heart of Haverfordwest.

For me, this is where it all began…

Here, I was incredibly lucky to have worked with, and been inspired and influenced by a very special lady called Maria. She was to shape my career as I know it today.

I found my appreciation for food - simple, tasty, honest food. Using high quality ingredients and cooked with love and care. For me food shouldn’t pretend to be anything it’s not. And customer satisfaction is extremely important. I like to abide by “if I can I will”.

I moved my way up the ranks to become one of the main cooks and to me, food became everything. From the moment I wake to the moment I sleep, food is at the forefront of my mind. Food is a hobby, I not only enjoy cooking in the restaurant but at home too for family and friends. I enjoy eating out, finding small tucked away places offering honest, tasty homemade dishes.

Coming to work in the Torch Theatre, opening and building Café Torch around being a busy mum now of two incredible boys, has been a fantastic experience. It has allowed me to explore and express my passion for food. It has given me the pleasure to be able to pass this on to our loyal and valued customers. It’s been so great to welcome returning customers time after time. The support you have shown us really does mean so much!

Presently, we operate around live shows and performances offering a set monthly changing pre theatre supper menu, a daytime menu for live broadcasts and a children’s menu for live children’s theatre.

Establishing ourselves after covid has not come without its challenges, but we do have lots of exciting plans for the future with:

  • The introduction of a themed monthly supper club, for an evening of delicious food in a casual and relaxed atmosphere, with an opportunity to taste dishes from around the world.
  • A custom cake making service. If you’re looking for a cake for an occasion, our newly appointed second cook Alicia Todaro is able to create a bespoke design just for you.
  • Private dining experiences in our Joanna Field Gallery with up to 25 guests in an area that is exclusively just for you. Tailoring a menu to suit your taste and dietary needs.
  • Function and conference catering, various size rooms are available for hire with in-house catering.

We have so much to offer, please get in touch with any queries you may have.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Lots of love

Lisa
