Theatrical Storytelling Workshops for Women

Are you female? Are you 65 and over? Do you want others to hear your story? Then join us at the Torch Theatre, Milford Haven this February and March for Theatrical Storytelling Workshops led by the internationally renowned theatre company Complicité. The FREE workshops are open to all women in this age group and those without prior experience in performing arts are warmly encouraged to join in.

This project is exploring the themes of invisibility and rebellion centring women who are frustrated by the state of the world we’re in and who want to have their voices and opinions heard. Based on movement and storytelling with lots of group work, Complicité is looking to work with six to 10 women in a group – so booking is essential.

Throughout the four sessions (taking place weekly on a Thursday morning) Complicité will help bring your stories to the stage. Sessions will be led through the medium of English, however group work in Welsh will be welcomed and encouraged.

These workshops will be very welcoming and are similar to A Warm Space at the Torch, a brand-new programme of free events running from January to March, including chair yoga, drama and art with places filling up fast.

Tim Howe, Senior Manager Youth and Community said:

“We know that older members of our community have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis. We hope that these creative Theatrical Storytelling Workshops and A Warm Space will offer an escape from the cold wintery days and allow you to have the opportunity to get creative as well as experiencing Torch Theatre’s truly unique brand of hospitality.”

Rima Dodd from Complcité added: “We are so pleased to be taking our Rebel Voices project to Wales and to be partnering with Torch Theatre to reach their community. Complicité's engagement work focuses on celebrating and nurturing the creativity of the participants and we can't wait to hear the stories and perspectives shared in the room, and to work with the group to give them a theatrical life."

Complicité’s Theatrical Storytelling Workshop will be held at the Torch on Thursday 29 February between 12- 2pm with workshop sessions on Thursday 7, 14 and 21 March from 12-3pm. Admission is free, but booking is essential. For further information contact the Box Office on 01646 695267 or visit torchtheatre.co.uk.
